Pegfilgrastim injection is used for the treatment of neutropenia (low white blood cells) that is caused by cancer medications. It is a synthetic (made by human) form of a substance that is naturally produced in your body also known as a colony-stimulating factor.

Pegfilgrastim assists your bone marrow to create new white blood cells. When some cancer medications are used to fight cancer cells, they also affect the white blood cells that fight infections. Pegfilgrastim is used to lower your risk of infection while you are being treated with anti-cancer medications.

It is also used to improve survival for cancer patients who have been exposed to radiation. This medication should only be given by or with the direct supervision of your doctor.
