Nevirapine is used together with other medications to treat the infection caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV is the virus that gives rise to acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Nevirapine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI). It works by reducing the amount of HIV that goes into the blood. Nevirapine does not cure HIV infection or AIDS, but, it helps prevent HIV from reproducing and seems to slow down the destruction of the immune system.

This might help delay the development of issues that generally result from AIDS or HIV disease. Nevirapine will not stop you from spreading HIV to other people. People who receive this medicine might continue to have some of the issues generally associated with AIDS or HIV disease.

This medication is only available under the prescription of your doctor.
