Mitoxantrone

Mitoxantrone injection is used alone or together with other medicines for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer and acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (ANLL). It belongs to a group of medicines also known as antineoplastics or cancer medicines.

Mitoxantrone is also used for the treatment of some forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). This medicine will not cure MS, but it might extend the time between relapses. Mitoxantrone intermeddles with the growth of cancer cells, which are ultimately destroyed.

Since the growth of normal body cells might also be affected by mitoxantrone, other unwanted effects will also happen. Some of these might be severe and must be reported to your doctor. Other effects, such as hair loss, might not be severe but might cause concern.

Some unwanted effects might not happen for months or years after the medicine is used. Before you start the treatment with mitoxantrone, you and your doctor must talk about the good this medicine will do and the risks of using it.

This medication should only be given by or with the direct supervision of your doctor.
