Melphalan

Melphalan belongs to a group of medicines also called alkylating agents. It is used to treat cancer of the ovaries and a specific type of cancer in the bone marrow. Melphalan intermeddles with the growth of cancer cells, which are finally destroyed.

Since the growth of normal body cells might also be affected by melphalan, other effects will also happen. Some of these might be severe and should be reported to your doctor. Other effects might not be severe but might cause concern.

Some effects might not happen for months or years after the medicine is used. Before you start treatment with melphalan, you and your doctor must talk about the good this medicine will do as well as the risks of using it.

Melphalan is only available under the prescription of your doctor.
